For residents of the Fleetwood area, Tahiti Tan is a premium Tanning Salon located in the Clayton area of Surrey, offering superior tanning beds, tanning lotions and eyelash extensions.
Fleetwood is currently one of Surrey’s six town centres. Geographically, it is the smallest of the six. The core of this community is at Fraser Highway and 160 Street.
Lumbering, fishing and farming provided many work opportunities attracting British, Dutch, German and Japanese settlers to the Fleetwood area during the 1860s. By the 1880s, permanent settlers had established homesteads.
In 1906, the first school was built at the corner of Johnston Road (152 Street) and Burkhart Road (68 Avenue).
By 1913, Bert Grantham opened a store at an intersection known as “Fleetwood Corner”. The Grantham store provided bulk foods, a butcher shop and local farmers’ produce.
In 1913, the Francis and Fleetwood families purchased a large parcel of land in the general area of Grantham’s store. Thomas Fleetwood served overseas during World War I, but died in battle. His sister, Edith Francis, applied to Victoria for a charter naming the community Fleetwood, in honour of her brother.
